CHAOS 9 EXTENDED FIELD TRIPS
TESLIN TRIP (even Years)The semester begins with an overnight trip to Teslin. The first trip is designed to allow students to know what they can expect from the extended field trips over the semester as well as to get to know each other and the instructors.
This trip includes a demonstration from a member of the community on setting a fishnet under the ice. We will have presentations from elders, from the TTC on their form of governance and the opportunity to do some Arctic Sports. |
Yukon QUest Volunteering (ODD YEARS)On odd years, the Yukon Quest starts in Whitehorse, and the CHAOS 9 students volunteer at the Carmacks checkpoint for the race. The checkpoint is manned 24 hours, and students will be assigned a variety of tasks during the entire time we are there. They will work with dog teams, handlers, mushers and other volunteers. Information from handlers, vets and race officials is freely shared with students.
This is an opportunity for students to give back to the community, as well as provide an experience that they can include on resumes in the future. |
Dog mushing tripThis is a three (3) day trip out at Lake Labarge. It includes a full day of mushing with the Cathers' Dog Tours.
